Heorung - I don't know about the needles fitting from different generations, but I wouldn't think they can fit. For you to get a better answer you may want to post that question as your own thread. I don't want to guess and give you the wrong answer and you don't want to waste your time looking in junk yards for something that will end up not fitting you car.
A better answer for you is my telling you that all I did was black out my orange needles with a felt tip black magic marker (soft, not a hard tip like on most Sharpies). If you do this like I did, try your best to keep the black marker "stripes" or "coatings" the same distance to leave the same amount of orange showing otherwise it'll look kinda dumb.
I intentionally left more orange showing on RPM's and Speedometer than I did for Fuel & Temp because those areas are larger. Also, do one coat (let dry) do another coat (let dry) and do a third coat. I found out the hard way that one coat is not enough and the orange still gave a faint shading from beneath one black coating. Damn it! Had to remove dash again to put on a few more coats of black marker. Trust me that a soft "felt tip" marker is much easier to use and you can put on pretty even coats. You also want to hold the fuel needle tip with your free hand (or finger ) so it stays at the same level of how much fuel is in your tank. That reading is kind of important Hold the temp needle, but that will re-adjust on its own - the tach and speedo don't need to be held, but they'll be all the way down to the left anyway when the engine is off.
BUT, there is a catch to all this: when the orange lighting at the end of the needle(s) burn out then 1 or 2 LED's need to be put in their place. That's when I'll have RED TIPPED NEEDLES...and will search at Lexucan's info found under these thread listings: Gauge Needle Fix :: Cluster LED Backlighting
Hope this info can help you...
