Cleaning the contacts worked.
The wife came home and said she was having this issue today in 100 degree heat. After finding this thread, I decided to try cleaning the contacts as was suggested by one poster. The relay's contacts did not look dirty but oxidation is not always obvious so I used a pencil eraser to clean all the sides of the prongs as good as possible and then used alcohol to wipe them off and the problem went away. I am not convinced it will last forever but since it was too late at night to get the part at a store, I figured I would give it a try and so far so good!
Worth a try...it's free!
Thanks to the person who suggested this fix. $15 saved is $15 earned!

Less than $15 to fix
I've read a lot of posts about this issue and have the latest update that I am simply "giddy" about. I went to Advanced Auto Parts this afternoon. . .provided the name of the Lexus part that everyone has accurately said needs to be replaced:
Magnetic Clutch Relay
Old relay part #: 90987-02022
New relay part #: 90987-02028
(BTW, the Lexus parts cost is around ~$60, which is excellent when comparing to the repair estimates everyone was getting from auto repair shops, ranging from $200 up to $1,000))
HOWEVER, I purchased a comparable part (non Lexus) for less than $15 at Advanced Auto Parts with little effort whatsoever. It was called BWD Part #R6034. Then I went outside, popped my auto's lid, went to the fuse box along the right hand side, pulled out the old part, put the new one in and "voila" my A/C was working like an Arctic Blast! Amazing!!. I cancelled my appointment with Firestone for tomorrow, which was charging $35 simply to diagnose the problem. . .and then the cost of "repair" would have been additional. I love the online community; and I hope this post saves someone money, like the earlier posts did for me!!

Bringing back an old thread. I just replaced the Mag Clutch Relay in my 2002 ES300. O'Reiley's stock number for the BWD Relay is R6034 and the number is now 90987-02012, $13.99. It is letter "G" on the image. Works like a charm. Thanks for saving us so much money.

Success !!!
Referring to the steps below for replacement worked great for my 2004 Lexus ES 330.
My AC light in the cabin of the car started blinking periodically. Over the course of a month or two it got worse and worse., Finally it would blink almost immediately after turning on the AC. I pulled out the relay for the 'Magnetic Clutch' and it was a Toyota part #90987-02022 (FAILED PART). I replaced it with the 90987-02028 relay.
1. Locate the A/C magnetic clutch relay.
2. Verify the part number printed on the side of the relay.
A. If the part number is 90987-02022, please replace the relay with the counter-measured relay P/N 90987-02028.

I have IS 300 and the part number is different 90084-98031 and the dealership want 115 for the part "Magnetic Clutch Relay". But I did find a cheaper one Lexus part Now dot Com for 55. Not sure what the part number would be at Oreilly, I'm sure it would be cheaper

So yesterday my AC light started blinking, and quit working. The compressor would turn on and run for a good 30 seconds and blow cold air before quitting and shutting off with the blinking light. Took my car to get an oil change and had them check the AC unit while it was in there. They claim it is the compressor load sensor located inside the compressor, basically meaning that I need a new compressor. I tried to buy a new relay from AutoZone as many in the past have done to fix it.
Here's my issue,
Its going to be around $1100 total after its all said and done and there's no way I'm paying that much. I'm also nervous that all of that may not even solve the issue. How likely is it that the load sensor in the compressor would go bad?
Also I've been looking on a bunch of different websites for new/re-manufactured compressors and they all seem to be in the 100-300 range whereas the shop quoted me at $794 for the compressor itself.
Any insight into what you guys really think would be greatly appreciated, I just want my ice cold AC back

First I would change the relay and if it still does it add refrigerant. These are inexpensive steps. If neither solves the problem than it is most likely the compressor.

Hey all,
Is this the relay part that is most likely needed if the a/c light is blinking and no cold air is coming out?
The price seems quite good, but is it too good to be true? I'm a total neophyte here. Just replaced the cabin air filter so hopefully that solves the problem but if not, I hope this is an inexpensive solution.
Thanks all. Love this community.
