Anybody with an Optima YellowTop or RedTop battery?
The search tool showed the most recent threads were '06 and no one got specific enough in the threads I scanned...so...
In addition to the steering rack going to #*$&, my battery is now dead. It's okay - it served a fairly long life (a Die Hard). I'm now interested in an Optima Yellow Top battery. The Optima website shows a Optima D35 (9040-218) for the 1992 Lexus ES300, but I don't often trust those "wizards" that look up parts on marketing sites.
Can anyone confirm the part number they have, the fitment (posts-to-battery-cables) and the quality of this battery?
Thanks in advance!

I've had 4 optima batteries (3 red 1 yellow) that have developed dead cells prematurely. The next battery I buy is gonna be a Kirkland signature - 100mo warranty. I will never buy another optima again.

The Optima yellow top is a Deep Cycle Battery. It is designed to be discharged many times and still be good. Personally, My buddy had 3 of them in an Accord he had with Air bags, He had the 3 to help power the compressors, but they never really lasted.
The best bet for the ES would just be the standard Red top.
I had a Red top in my SHO at one point. Keep in mind, The optimas are a Gel spiral cell battery that is NEVER suppose to boil over, Hoiwever, when the voltage regulator went out on my Alternator, You better believe that Red top started boiling and spilling acid.

WOW! Two interesting responses right off the bat!
The RedTop battery is shown as the 35 (9020-164 BOXED) or the 35 (8020-164 UNBOXED). I guess I should get those parts confirmed by anyone who's installed this.
And is the "BOXED" and "UNBOXED" reference just referring to the packaging of the battery or something else?
Thanks!

ive had my redtop for about 2 years now and ive only had minor problems. It lost its charge one and i just took it to advanced and they charged it for me no problem! but then again i also have 1500 continuous watts running at all times so im sure that didnt help.
im gonna have to go with the on this one for quality and a on price.
I also bought mine new on ebay for like 80bucks shipped so find the model number and look around on there for a while. It might be worth the money you save!

hey i recently did my battery. the 35 series fits .... but the 24f fits too and is better, so do not get a 35, get a 24f and enjoy the quick cranking and peace of mine. its awesome. [ i didnt get a optima, by the way, but it would apply to them too as far as series ]
edit: turns out the optima doesnt come in 24f. only 35. so anyway dont get an optima then.

"Ya hear about these in far too many car magazines and car audio magazines for them all to be lemons, right?" - Famous Last Words of a Car Nut
This is small enough of an expenditure, I don't mind being a guinea pig. Yeah, I ordered a RedTop from Summit Racing. It just showed up and everything looks as though it arrived in good condition.
I just pulled the Die Hard out of the Boulevardier, and as I'm loosening the nut on the positive battery terminal clamp, I notice that, despite my constant maintenance, the presence of some corrosion under the clamp between it and the post. When I loosened the nut the clamp broke because of the corrosion. *Sigh*
Safety Pup says, "Always REMOVE the battery cables from the posts as you're routinely cleaning them, kids!"
No time like the present to upgrade/replace the positive and negative battery cables, eh? Nope, the brain of a modder can't stop..."How 'bout 'No time like the present to do the 'Big Three' upgrade?'"
Time to use our old pal and find an excellent and detailed "Big Three" upgrade thread to see if it's worth the time. (The car's down anyways until January-ish when I get the rack and pinion replaced, right?) And it looks as though I'll need to remove the air intake box to get to the battery cables, so why not go ahead with a CAI while I have that off, right? Somebody stop me!!!!

Although it's too late for me (Optima's sitting on the workbench waiting for the Big 3 Upgrade to be finished), I feel strongly compelled to post up more information about Optima RedTop and YellowTop batteries after reading the following thread on the board for one of my other cars: Optima Red

I normally get 5-7 years from the cheapest thing I can find at Walmart of Meijer ($35-$45). Several friends use two of the Optimas in ski boats especially with mega sound systems.
I'm surprised at the number of bad responses below.
