Default Radio with Built in Amp - bypass Lex amp?

I was wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket radio that has a built in amp in it.

If so did you or can you by pass the lexus amp and just connect the speaker wires from the radio to the wires from the stock amp?

I bypassed all the stock stuff. My ES has the best sounding system I've ever had in a car. I always use decent quality stuff when I actually do upgrade, but wow, since this car is sealed up so greatly it makes the stereo sound many times better. I'm amazed it is still sealed so well after 15-16 years of usage. I have a nice Alpine head unit with XM wired directly, infinity component speakers, fosgate 4 channel amp, huge fosgate mono sub amp, and a couple srs or something 10" subs. (bazooka brand 10's in sealed mdf box) I probably only spent a couple hundred bucks since I bought a lot of it used and I'm a cheap-***.

Anyways, getting on track, I'm not sure about the Lexus stuff but on a lot of cars with integrated amps you need a special adapter when installing aftermarket head unit to stock equipment. I know on infinitis/nissans with bose system the impedance is only 2 ohms instead of the standard 4 so stuff starts burning out after awhile, mainly the built in amp on the head unit.

Thanks for the replies.

Truplaya26, Did you do this in your car? I really don't want to cut up my stock amp wires to test if it would work or not.
I'm hoping when I do this it will get rid of some RF noise I'm getting.

92ESRICK,

Yeah I'm keeping the stock speakers in it as my understanding is that their nakamichi speakers. It must of been a PIA to get the new speakers in.

I havn't done it yet in my GS, but i did do it in my '94 ES that i used to have, and it sounded great ... i had alpine CDA-9851 HU with infinity kappa 3-ways in front doors, kicker ks13 tweeters in doors and ks20 on dash, MB Quart RCE-269 components w/cross overs in the rear deck and infinity 4-channel amp to power it all (before i got the infinity amp i was using the internal amp on the Alpine HU). It sounded great and was really LOUD, Im going to be making a new system in my GS but it will take awhile since it's going to be alot more $$$$ ... All speakers will be strictly MB Quart Q-Series w/ MB Quart Premium 12" subs and 2 Rockford amps w/ Pioneer Z2 HU ...

Thanks for the info. I'll have to see about wiring it when I have the chance.

I was searching, but it's taking too long. What's the website that you buy your inexpensive audio components from, TruPlaya26? Thanks!

Cool

the best thing next to re-wiring the whole damn car is simply to take the plugs off the stock amp, then bridge the three harnesses together at the appropriate places using soime small insulated wire.

That way the stock ANT works, along with the speakers. And all the changes can be undone. Otherwise you get into stripping & soldiering two dozen wires....
