Brand New Member, Parcel shelf removal..
Hi folks,
My first Lexus, after looking for an LS400 for about 3 years I came across this 97 ES300 and bought it after about 10mins. I'll still buy an LS but this car is suprisingly good. Here she is..
Happy with the car so far except for one thing, rear centre lap/sash seatbelt reel is busted, can anyone let me know how to remove the rear shelf so I can replace the reel?
Thanks a million...

I don't know if it is the same for te 97-01 es 300's but on my 95, to remove the rear seats, speakers, and backrest, all you need to do is stick your hand inbetween the lower seat cushion and the carpet, and locate where the seat clips in. These two pins should be located under the middle panel of the left hand and right hand passenger side of the seat. Just pull up, and the pin will pull out. Then, the lower seat cushion should come out. Remove the bolts for the seat back and then pull the seat up, so that the headrests are coming up to the ceiling, and it should slide out.

Thanks Guys, I'm gonna get to work ripping apart the interior of my basically 'rattle free' ES300. I'll let you know the outcome, actually I might even take some pics along the way. Hope I find some money back there. (Although the rear seats appear like they've never been sat on, so why is my seatbelt busted!)

It came apart just as described, I found $2 and removed the faulty reel. Now I gotta take that reel and find another. Lexus here in Australia want AUD$400 for one! Plus it'll be two weeks, so I'm off to the Toyota wreckers "salvage yard", something camry should do the trick.
