Default Comfort on 17 wheels, compare to 15 stock wheels

Hi,

My stock wheels on ES300 is 15. I have Winter tires on them now so I am looking for another set wheel for Summer, instead of swap the tires.

If I upgrade it to 17, I will loose some drive quality. But how much harsher ride will I get compage to the 15 stock wheels?

Let grade the comfort of 15 wheel 100 points. How much you grade the 17 wheels with 215/50/17 good tires.

Thanks,

the ride should become a bit firmer,
i drove mazda 3 with low profile tires didn't like it too much, you will probably feel the road more.
but i read that low profile tires good for highway, b/c they they offer lower rolling resistance.

Can't be that much worse. The Lexus-plush suspension will soak most of it up, I can imagine.

Planning on getting the oem lexus is300 17 in wheels for my 95. From other's description, its not that harsh, depending on the condition of the road.

Moved from 15s to 18s a month ago and there was no increase in harshness.
I've not upgraded my suspension yet, so this is all on the stock suspension.

I have noticed a dramatic increase in handling and wet-weather handling.
Thumbs up here.

handling will definitely improve......ride will be harsher but u get used to it.

But 17" are definitely no 15" in terms of comfort and going over every bump effortlessly. Just watch out for the potholes.

BTW, I'm running IS rims with 215/45/17 tires.

Thanks,

Some people say they use 215/55/17 instead of 215/50/17 to get more comfort. But it will give me 3% error. Is that a lot? Have you tried 215/55/17 on your car?

havent tried anything else. 45 series are not that comfortable but they give the car a lower stance.

17's will not result in a harsh ride. I didn't notice when moving up to 18's. Handling was a lot better after adding 4 inches to the width of my wheels.

Ride is much more stiff, so slow down for bumps, Easy on U-turns because wheels might rub, and braking is improved.

I would rate the comfort 90% compared to stock 15.
On the Plus side you get more response and better handling.
And don't forget they'll look 10x better than stock.
Good Rubber plays the most valuable part.
I'd go 215/50/17, maybe 55 for maximum comfort

would 55 series tires fit our ES? I think it would make it look like a 4x4

It might but it would look retarded. Why would you want to put a bigger rim without a low profile tire?

Thanks,
I was afraid of too much harsh ride. And I also read somewhere in this forum that 55 series is recomended for ES. Thank guy, I go to 215/50 now.
