Question vvt-i, when did ES's use it, and whats the difference?

i know this may be an obvious question to some but i still dont know too much about it, when did the es's first start having the vvt-i, and how much of a difference did it make the first year they used it, in comparison to the prior year, how much faster is it? or is it better on gas?

2000 and up ES300's have VVTI and it adds some power and efficiency.

added 10 hp I think, not sure about the gas.

Cool

vvt-i extends the powerband, especially at high rpm's.
it also negates the use of maintenance issues from EGR circulation.

The cars were not any faster, in actuality the fastest non M/T / non 2gr-fse es 350 100% stock is the 1997 ES 300.

VS

On the ES's it is '99. 97-98 had the revised upper intake & heads first found on the 95 Avalon.

Only had variable timing on the intake side too, i thought it was both. Good stuff. I couldn't tell a difference seat of the pants between a 00' I drove and my 97'.

doest it mean the 97 es 300 is less restrictive, therefore its the fastsest ??

Cool

No, it's bound to the same basic OEM tuning, the same limits, etc. The best answer would be that the 97-98's are a hair lighter than the 99-01's.
