Unhappy Navigation system installation 2002-2003

2002 Lexus es300

I recently bought a whole factory navigation unit ML for my 02 es300 from ebay. since i didnot had a premium sound and not a ML system i thought it might not work but when i installed the screen it started working and everything works fine. the only thing i am having problems with is that i am lost with all the wires on the navigation DVD player that goes in the trunk. ..dont know which wire goes where.
i know that one set goes to the head unit but what about the other set? im lost.

I finally got it done...navigation is installed and working GREAT...my head unit is a ML nav unit but my car had premium sound and i was still able to use the same speakers and amp and the ML system worked on my premium system...i had to do a few wiring mod like finding the speed sensor wire for the nav and the amplifier input to hear my nav. system works great. i didnt get a chance to take any pics since i wasnt sure if it will work. but its not that bad...all you will need is the wiring diagram for the whole unit...i am an engineer so i figured it out..if you are one it will be a piece of cake for you. if you are not it will be a little chalanging but not impossible.
i paid about $900 for the whole factory system including the front head unit with casing, antena and GPS module with DVD.

as far as I know there are no monthly fees. information and maps are from the navigation DVD... which is pretty expensive.

Default Install questions

I just bought a 02 es300 and came with the factory stereo 6 cd changer, I want to upgrade to a Nav. system. I saw a few on ebay , should i buy it with the whole setup : antenna, gps receiver, cables. Did yours come with the dash panel ? How easy is to run the cables?

Thanks for the help....

Default 2002 ES300 Navigation Wiring

Hi,

I know this is an old thread... but I purchased a GPS head end and installed it in my daughter's 2002 ES300. The radio etc works fine but could use some help with the GPS / Navigation DVD player.

At first glance I did not see any wires in the trunk...

Where did you find the schematics?
I assume you wired to the large 18pin, the adjacent 10 pin connector and the 2 pin GPS.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also... Does anyone know anything about the backup camera for this radio?

Where are the wires in the trunk located? Are they there on every '02?? How much did you pay for the unit? Did it come with navigation DVD?

Thanks for the response Mike,

I'm afraid I don't have the answers as you asked many of the same questions I asked.

I was hoping someone with experience in adding GPS (or had a car with GPS) could shed some light on the wiring.

As to the question I can answer... I got a great deal and paid less than $100 for the HE unit and honestly I don't know if came with the GPS DVD because I don't have the connectors to power up the NAV unit.

Can anyone out there share some information on the ES300 GPS wiring (in the trunk or otherwise)?

Yes... I received the NAV unit (see the pictures 3 and 4 in thread #9. I purchased the unit off ebay.

* I think I received everything except any special cables (that are not included with the car) and the GPS antenna.

I could make the cables it I had a schematic or could find the connector pinouts, etc.

Thank you very much. This is very helpful.

A couple follow-up questions.

* Do you also have the connector pictures that show which connectors are associated with the schematic pinouts?

* Do you know where the Navigation unit is installed in the 2002 ES300.

I assumed it was installed in the the trunk but when I looked there it was not obvious where it goes (or perhaps it gets installed elsewhere).

Again - Thanks a ton!
