Has anyone had similar problems and Does anyone know if the expense of the repair would covered under the lawsuit Toyota settled several years ago regarding this issue? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Your oil leak has nothing to do with sludge. Go to another shop and get another opinion. You can get a replacement engine just $3000! I'm guessing that your valve covers are leaking, which is perfectly normal for that mileage.

what other problems might one face at that mileage? I am thinking of trading mine in (2000 ES300 130K miles) as it'll only continue to decline in value and I have to do some work soon or trade it (tires, front shocks, maybe a steering pump or rack - steering is very stiff in cold weather till the car warms up, already had it checked out). Not sure it's worth all that as all that work will almost be what I get for it in trade.

Hey Guys,

My moms 2000 es300 just FAILED on us today. We bought the car used thru a private party sale. We purchased the vehicle with 160k last year. I've been doing all the maintenance myself. If my car DID suffer from Oil Sludge, would the dealer cover it?

PS....When we bought the car....the previous owner had a "Certification" that it was all good.

Thanks in advance

The engine FAILED. Possible oil sludge.

What do you mean by possible oil sludge? Who diagnosed the engine?

The certification will be thru third party warranty, or the dealership itself. NOT Lexus.

LOL @ Lexus covering a motor from 12 years ago and who's knows how many miles now.

And I had the third party warranty before. You need to prove that oil changes were done with receipts from actual shops and such to show maintenance to have any coverage... But this can vary

Call all your local Lexus dealerships immediately... quiz and corroborate what they tell you against each other.

As the third owner of my 2000 RX300 AWD, I checked the Lexus site for maintenance history. Yep, first owner got a new short block from Lexus and later the car was sold as Certified. I now have 143,000 on it, going strong, but did get the total tranny failure, an expensive shock, but got a lifetime warranty on the tranny for $3,500 out the door. Love the vehicle.
