Over Drive question
i'm trying to figure out this whole overdrive thing since this is the first car i had with overdrive......
should it be off or on??? dealer told me to have it off for street driving and on when on the freeway , is this true?
it seems even for city driving when its off the rpm's are slighty higher, and wouldn't that waste the mpg and put more pressure on the tranny?

so when it's turned off is when it gives you the extra power then?
It is best to keep it on all of the time though. Less wear and tear on the motor.

Something like that. I turn mine off when I need to accelerate faster, like when merging into traffic or trying to pass another car. Then I click it back on when I am up to speed. It will reset to on the next time you restart the car everytime (in case you forget to turn it off). Play with it a little bit and you will figure out if you need to keep it on all of the time or not.

I think its there to prevent gear hunting on uphills. The transmission is programmed for fuel economy, and therefore usually likes to upshift to the next higher gear. This can get annoying on uphills when you end up switching between 3rd and 4th gears.

Why not just use your right foot?
