Clogged EGR Valve on ES 250
I have a 1990 ES 250 with about 145K miles. My check engine light has been coming on, so I took it to the dealer to get checked out. The diagnosis is that I have a clogged EGR valve/hose.
The estimate to replace everything (EGR valve assembly, gasket, bimetal vacuum valve, etc.) is almost $800. The service writer told me that they only replace at the dealer, they don't do unclogging.
Does anyone know if it is possible to simply clean out the valve assembly and attached hoses and such, rather than have everything replaced?
And if it is possible, is this something a non-Lexus shop could and would do? Any ideas on amount of labor involved?
Thanks very much.
