I have a 1999 es 300, I get this problem once a week , most times I start the car, 1 turn and bang, fires right up, sometimes if a turn the key quick , the car might shudder like it is about to start, but when I turn the key that second time forget it its like its out of gas. if anyone could give me some insight it would be great. thanks in advance

UPDATE... I found out that the fuel pump is not making any noise when turn the key to ON position. Someone is telling me to check the fuel pump ECU , but I can't find it in the repair manual, could it be under a different name? does the es 300 even have a FP ECU? Does anyone know the list of things I should check from this point?

I got the hard starting problem like you. I have changed fuel filter, cleaned the idel valve and MAF, will wait to see what I can do next. and pls keep me update on your fix!

I try solve the hard start problem by cleaning the idel control valve. I spary thottle body cleaner into the thottle body close to firewall, afterward, the car start smoother.... Give it a try...
