anything larger then 19's is just silly, when someone looks at the car all they see is the huge wheels, it takes away the beauty of the car.
Most people will just slap on the biggest (and for the most part the ugliest) wheels they can find and they think it "cool," what they don't seem to realize is that it weighs the car down, alters the speedometer, and looks dumb (IMO) for a car such as the ES.
Just my 2 cents

I bought my 98 es 300 with 20's on it
I have 20's on my car and (IMO) it handles better with the wheels and tires I run on it. I have 225/35/20 Nitto NEO-GEN's on 20". If you want pics hit me up. I'll be glad to email them to you. I like to drive fast through the turns and my tires stick to the road like glue.

if you go with 20's use the 225/35/20's if you get the 245/35/20's they will rub when you have people in the back and your turning i had to put the 225's on my car to stop the rubbing

20's are overdoing it and probably only a status thing IMO, and they will rub as mentioned. I don't think the ES has the arches to correctly and seemlessly since it's a smaller car.
