Default Engine Problems

Ok...For these past two weeks, the problem on my car has started to get even worse. The symptoms of the problem, is the car stuttering when I roll to a stop. It feels as if it's about to die out but it doesn't..It just stutters really badly and shakes a bit violent kind of...Also, when the stuttering happens, its normally when I'm parked or stopped at a light, in neutral or something. Also, When this stuttering occurs, white smoke is puffing out the back of my muffler which smells strongly of gas and it looks like theres some liquid dripping out the muffler a little bit when the smoke puffs out white.

Over these past two weeks, the problem has started to get even worse and worse. And this morning, (9/13/06) , I've experienced the worst symptom of all. I was going on a 100 mile + trip today to work and i was going 80+ on the highway. When I slowed down for the toll booth, the engine was starting to sound like it was gonna die and I could feel the violent vibrations like the cars about to die out... And when I start accelerating, i could feel the car jerking a bit as it trys to get going and I can get it going. But the car is still stuttering but not as bad. The engine is also revving in high RPMs like around 4 -5.3. just to go about 60. It feels as if a fuel injector was blown but i have no clue. I don't know whats going on. But when I reached my destination, I shut off the car and didn't have time to chekc whats wrong. 6 hours later when I come back my car, conditions have returned to normal with just a slight stuttering like before. And the entire time during this experience, the engine temperature needle stayed on stable in the middle.

What could be wrong? All help is appreciated

oh yeah, mileage on the car is about 209,xxxk

Does it seem you're loosing coolant in your radiator or reservoir?

May I recommend you have the engine checked with a good analysis machine for further determination

This takes away some of the guesswork. A compression check might be indicated for a closer idea of the engine imbalance.

Cool

Probably a head gasket sucking in alot of coolant & causing it to run off 4-5 cylinders. Could be a vacuum leak causing the studdering. White smoke is water.
When fuel goes uncombusted, it'll hit the exhaust manifold & burn in the exhaust & on the cat convertor. Both of which will easily flash-ignite fuel & the end result is alot of black smoke.

I see..I'll check the coolant reservoir like tammy said and change out the head gaskets and then see if the stuttering symptom still goes on.

Thanks for the advice!

Cool

Unless it's bilowing coolant out, the coolant level isn't going to change much with a blown head gasket.
