`97-01 ES valve adjustment?
My `97 ES has around 140k miles on it now and i've noticed that the valves are starting to "click" more then usual (some say the sound is the fuel injectors pulse).
Back in my Honda days, all I really needed was a set of feeler gauges, a valve adjustment tool and a wrench.
However, i've heard that the ES's its not quite that simple. I heard that you will need some sort of shims to make the adjustments.
I'm planning on doing a valve adjustment on my next major service (timing belt, w/p, cam/crank seals...blah, blah, blah).
Has anyone ever done a valve adjustment on their ES's?

i have done that on my es half an year ago, and mine is a 97 too
yes you will need the shim or valve cap if it gone really bad, before i had the adjustment, my engine sound like Diesel engine. of cuz after the valve adjustment, i gain some power back...

Feeler gauge to check the clerance. Pull the shim off the bucket. *hint* They're magnetic. Measure the shim thickness with a set of calipers. Add the clerance to the thickness. Compair that to the specification. If it's out of specification, look at the valve shim chart for the engine & refferance the new shim needed.
Keep out of spec shims. Sometimes you can put them in another out of adjustment valve & save the cost of a new shim.
The lifter buckets can also cause about the same tapping noise if they're slapping, but that's less common.

As far as I have seen on these, it is a 1MZ-FE. These engines have shimless buckets. You will have to remove the camshaft (AFTER TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS) and order the correct bucket based on the gap.
