Well, I decided to post on this issue. Because the P0171 Bank1 check engine light code can be SO many things (NOT just an O2 sensor), I thought I'd give some input. My acceleration was hesitant and I was getting worse gas mileage. Instead of buying an O2 sensor, I first paid about $5 for a spray can of electrical contact cleaner (CLC). I then took out my MAF sensor (very easy) and sprayed it/cleaned it with a cotton swab. I noticed adifference RIGHT way. When reving the car, it no longer hesitated (as well as accelerating- back to normal and what a difference. Gas mileage looks to be better. The problem code also could have been related to the fuel cap, because I filled up and when I got back in the car the light was off. We'll see how this works out but for now I am very happy with the result of cleaning the MAF sensor. I also used a Fuel Additive made by CLC so that may have helped.

99es300 - i tried spray-cleaning the MAFS today. how many miles did you drive the car before the code reset itself and went away? mine is still on, along w/ the TRAC OFF light!
