Door To Car Lighter
I just bought an ES 300 and I can not open the door to the Car Lighter / ash tray. You are suppose to be able to simply push it forward to make it open. This is not working and I don't want to brake it. Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

Don't "brake" it! That would cause carbon-graphite dust to get all on your leather seats! All kidding aside, if tapping on it won't work, you could try lifting the carpet and reaching your arm underneath the console to push it open and find out what made it stick. Don't pry on it though, you might scratch or BREAK it.

I have a '96 that had the same problem. You need to remove the whole ashtray assembly and you'll find that it operates on a "spool" type cylinder with a thin piece of metal wound around it. Mine had just come out of the slot that holds it and I simply wound it back up and it was good to go. By the way, you wind it back on the spool in the opposite way that it naturally coils. Mine also had coins behind it along with parking stubs, etc. Be sure you try it out and make sure it works before you put it back in.....

Okay,
The wood grain where you gear selector just pops off, use a screwdriver or something flat. You see screw for the ashtray, also there are two more onthe top of the ashtray that are kinda hidden by the plastic molding for the radio, unscrew those also. It pops out just like that, the wire for the cig lighter is long enough so you can look around back and see the clip to disconnect it. From there you can take apart the whole assembly if you want to . i find that coins and misc. objects fall behind the tray. That might be your problem, or the spring isn't attached, or there is something blocking the gear. When you take it apart make sure you have some sort of grease to lube it back up to assure that it will run smoothly and properly for year to come. Hope that helps
