Engine Whistling Sound in 05 ES
I was wondering if any of you guys have heard a whistling sound coming from the engine under moderate to hard acceleration past 2,500 RPMs in the ES? It happens consistently and even occured in the loaner when my car was in for service. I drove an RX and it didn't do it at all. The sound is peculiar especially for a Lexus. I've asked the dealer about it and they said it was normal intake noise. I don't think so, it's not like these cars have huge mass air meters and ported intakes. Could anyone offer me any insight and/or possible solutions?

halfpast..
I had a 93 Camry V6 before and a 06 lexus now.. it had the same thing.. I taught it was just me who notices all this... haha.. anyways what the dealer told you might be true.. when I accelerate my camry past 2500 RPM, it's like some sort of turbo kicking in but I liked the sound though..
Recently, I had to change my flex pipe on my camry, so I decided to go with the regular cheap one because the dealer was charging $$$ more which was not worth. So I went ahead and changed it and immediately the whistling changed more rougher at 2500 RPM... I am thinking it is more likely something to do with the whole exhaust system as well. I did not get a chance to hear thin on my new lexus cause my fiancee is having it at the moment.

AMF I've checked the box and it's closed. SK It's the weirdest thing, like against a barrier wall or under a bridge it really resonates. It annoys the hell out of me because a Lexus shouldn't do this. The tech had me test drive another ES along with the loaner I mentioned and they all made the same noise. I'll check all the plumbing again to see if there is anything abnormal. I hope this doesn't happen to you guys. Thank you both for your help. Maybe I'll just change in an InGen cold air induction package.

It's one of two things:
1) You've got a real vacuum leak
2) You're not used to driving cars with varriable intake systems
Put a vacuum gauge to it and see what's going on. Otherwise pull the intake off & put it back together.
Actually... They do to an extint, tho neither of those will make a noticeable noise difference.
