Default 1995 Lexus es300 suspension help.

Does anyonekknow how to remove the bolt holding the front control arm(#1) to the spindle mount (#4) without damaging the threads on the control arm side (#2)? This is the last part that needs replaced before I can a professional alignment done. The other side was fixed by pulling the whole assembly off a donor car and leaving the bolt intact. I do not have a shop press at my disposal.

Thanks

Post a pic of the actual offending fixture. Is it mounted on with a bolt or press fit?

It looks like bolt 48703E is inserted from the front of arm 1 with a washer and nut on arm 2. After being on there for over 20 years, I bet there is corrosion inside the hub (carrier) assembly keeping the bolt in there. If the hub and arms are off the car I would take it to a shop for pressing out. If they are still on the car you could remove arm 2 and place a sacrificial nut on the bolt and try to brute force it out with plenty of PB blaster (or similar) and a big hammer, but it might lead to a bent arm 1. Have you tried using an impact gun on the bolt? It just might spin the bolt to break the corrosion. Good luck on your efforts to get it out.

You're right about how it assembles, the bolt inserts from the non-adjustable control arm side. It won't spin at all but it shouldn't be press fit, I'll have to ask the tire shop be sure. My impact was stolen so I'll have to get a new one before I can go that route. On a side note, I was feeling for suspension play and this control arm is solid. I just assumed it was bad because I've already had to replace the other 3, 2 from Rock auto, one still attached to the spindle mount from the salvage yard. The only suspension play I found was in the sway bar links which are $15 new...

By the way I already tried beating the one on the passenger's side out with an 8lb maul. Even with the sacrificing nut I almost had to re tap the threads but it didn't budge and that involved several soakings of pb blaster in the week leading up to that.

Get a cheap oxy/acetylene torch from a hardware store and try heating the hell out of it.
