What's This Part Called?
Hi folks. I didn't take a picture, so hopefully my description will be enough. Underneath the front of my 2000 ES300 is a black plastic piece that looks like it is designed to deflect air underneath the car. It is not a part of the front bumper or front faschia; rather, it is further underneath the car.
Anyway, we had a lot of snow a couple of weeks ago and this black plastic piece got broken. Now it is hanging down.
Anybody know what this piece is called? Have you replaced one before? How much?
I could replace myself, as it is only held on with four or five bolts.
Thanks in advance.

go to your local lexus dealership. Ask the people who work in the parts department. If they don't know what you are talking about they can show you a diagram of the cars set up in the front and you can work it from there.

Same thing happened to my 2000 one day this winter when we had snow. I just ripped the damn thing off. I haven't replaced it and don't know if i will. It's main purpose I believe is to scoop air to cool the engine it also functions as a "rock deflector"

Knowing Lexus, the part probably has an aerodynamic purpose as well (one of the ways they achieve such a low coefficient of drag for their sedans is by carefully engineering the airflow under the car) It might be good for an extra .01 MPG

MASH835, I do not think that is the piece we are talking about.
The piece(s) we are talking about are two large flat squares that bolt/attach parallel to the ground. The go from the under side of one fender to the other, and from the bumper back to just before the first crossmember. The are a thin plastic with several holes and moldings.
Here is a picture:
It's a splash guard, not an air dam. your picture is of the old style air dam which is not on the newer ES's.
