strut bar
Went shopping yesterday for a new body ES. My wife wants it. Hopefully I'll talk her out of it. There's nothing wrong with our 99 ES. She's just bummed because it's been in 2 accidents. Just got it back from the shop Fri.
I noticed the 04 has a strut tower bar. The 02-03 models don't. The salesman didn't know why it was added to the 04's but we can assume there was too much body flex. I've driven 02-03's for loaner cars, I didn't feel there was flex. Anyone out there with either the 02 or 03 that has experienced much body flex? If we get one it'll be an 02.

steviej has a factory strut tower bar in his '02 ES. My '03 ES loaner has one too (see pic). I'm pretty sure your salesman has no idea at all what's he's talking about

The 99 ES, (97-01) never had a strut tower bar, but you can always utilize the strut tower bars for the same year Camry & MCV20 chassis related cars i.e. Solara. Keep in mind, the ES does not have the indentation on the hood insulation for clearance, so the bar will rub on it and eventually cutting into the material.

Correct me if I'm wrong guy's, but I beleive the 02+ models that don't have the STB, instead have the factory equipped AVS suspension system. In addition, the 97 - 01 models equipped with the same feature are unable to install the STB because of the steel cap on top of the strut towers that house the electronics for the AVS system.
