Default squeaking serpentine belt

belt squeak 2000 camry after replacing new belt (bando) with new tensioner(koyo), tension roller(koyo). Squeak for 5 minutes. I put the old belt back and no more squeak. What is the problem with new belt?

1. This is technically a Lexus thread.
2. According to many on this forum, and other Toyota forums... The only belts that work properly ALL of the time, are the OEM belts from the dealer only. They really aren't expensive. Infact, they are cheaper at my dealer than autozone.

Good luck 🍀

Mitsuboshi, Bando and Dayco are OEM on these cars. Which you have/get seems to depend on location. New belts can squeak if there is old belt material fused to the pulleys.

Interesting! I knew for sure Mitsubishi was OEM. I was under the impression Bando and Dayco were cheap garbage alternatives, because of their prices on rockauto.com . Good to know.

Not sure how Camry’s have it. Sounds like you have an automatic tensioner. On the V6 Lexus you have to manually set the belt tension using the alternator bracket and/or the power steering bracket depending on which belt is getting replaced. If it’s an automatic tensioner then I would check for residue on the pulleys and make sure they spin smoothly without any coarseness or looseness without the belt on. Also make sure the belt is seated in the middle of each pulley without touching the edges. If you’re off by one tooth, it’s gonna rub and squeal.

good luck.
