Default Ran my 96 LS400 at the dragstrip...

I hadn't been to the local 1/4mile in almost a year so a few friends and i made a trip.

I only ran one time but here is what the car ran:

r/t .029
60` 2.395
330` 6.674
1/8th 10.178 @70.96
1/4mi 15.632 @89.79

The car has 180k miles on it. I did a similar version to the Intake mod posted in the FAQ section(removed headlight seal, got rid of plastic covers), and i also had the rear premuffler/cat, removed and replaced with 2.5inch piping to dual Magnaflow mufflers.

Also, i did preload i(brake/gas at same time) and i had it in PWR and in 3rd gear.

It was a VERY humid night at around 80*ish.

Actually, looking at Lexus's knowledge center, those numbers are right on. Lexus lists the '95-'97 LS as having a 15.6 second 1/4 mile acceleration time.

Thanks for posting up those numbers.

Actually, it appears '95s and '96s are a little bit faster. I didn't know they were lighter!

Not to change the subject but look under the 97 model in the options code and HID lighting was an option. Is this true?

It's hard to believe that the '95 and '96 LS400 only weighed 3650lbs.

For reference, the new Ford Taurus SHO weighs 4450lbs.
The 2010 LS600hL weighs over 5360lbs.

If our cars had better gearing - let's say the gearing of a 6-speed transmission - we could have had acceleration to 60 in the 6 second range.

No it's not true. At least not in the US.

I think i could have gotten a 15.5 or better out of it, but i didn't get a chance to run it again. I didn't drive the car hard enough going to the track, so it was shifting very early.

Definately not boosting this...lol, that's why i have a project car.

Isn't curb weight what applies? GVWR is what it weighs when it's fully loaded.

The LS600HL has a 5360lb CURB weight, meaning the weight of the car when it is nearly empty (I think it may include a tank of gas or something).

Yes, GVWR is the total allowable mass of the vehicle, fully loaded, including passengers, fuel and luggage... in other words, totally irrelevant.

Curb weight is car, minus fuel and passengers/luggage.

Hybrid cars are heavier than their non-hybrid counterparts though, aren't they?
I really have to catch up on my research, it's been entirely too long since I've had passion for something.

15+ quarter mile is right on the numbers but still doesn't feel right when you drive it aye?

I remember buying mine years ago it felt like a hot rod. V8 torque with rear wheel drive. I still remember doing 90MPH and flooring and it down shifted.

With custom exhaust my 95 still feels quick - not compared to my 350Z Thanks for posting

Cool time! also I haven't seen that link to those pdf's really interesting! I didn't realize the 96 was 200lbs lighter then the 93. Mine is probably even fatter with its extra celsior goodies that are useless and slow it down! 1/4 mile and 0-60 on all these cars would be a lot faster if it wasn't for the ultra slow engage torque converter in 1st gear, its downright irritating!
