On my recent trip to Thailand/Cambodia I used my iphone 7 plus as my main camera even though I had my 6D paired with 24-70L. It was hot as hell why would I lug around my heavy dslr when I have a good quality camera phone.

After going through my pictures once I got home, I immediately regret not taking my dslr out more on the trip. Yes the pictures on the iphone are OK quality. Sigh, next time i'll just lug around the heavy camera, or it's an excuse to upgrade to a mirrorless

One of friend was showing me pics from his Galaxy and as a comparison his girlfriends pics from her newer Galaxy. Shot same scene, same time and the images from his phone were dynamically much nicer, the ones on her phone were blown out. Some camera phone images are quite nice. May not be 30x40" nice though the intended online use they are excellent. Most these are viewed small screen anyhow.

What are some recommended phones that produce nice images?

First iphone I ever had

Images look good on the actual phone. But disappointing on the computer!

I think the Iphones, Google Pixel and the high end Korean phones all come equipped with a decent camera. I upgraded from a 4 year old Nexus 5 to a S7 Edge and the difference was night and day. And for the usual snapshot or facebook posts, a phone will be enough...but for serious work/once in a lifetime thing I'd be way too scared to rely on it completely.

I've actually not carried an SLR/DSLR for awhile now and not missing it one bit. The smaller film cameras are just such a nice change of pace. For my upcoming Myanmar trip I'll be bringing a film camera and a mirrorless (as insurance lol).

The phone will stay at home. I left it at home when I was in Cambodia and it was one of the most liberating things ever. No social media/no work emails, just me and what's in front of me.

i took a pano in scotland on my google nexus 6p (no longer new, but still a GREAT phone), and printed it on canvas 59"x9". looks awesome and detailed.

samsung, google, huawei, and LG are my picks for brands. apple's getting better, but still not as good.
the huawei p10 has dual Leica lenses on it!
