It's not a manufacturing defect. All sensors will have a certain amount of "hot" pixels in the camera, even the sensors in the Hubble Space Telescope have this problem, though they are processed out.

Canon camera sensors will correct itself over time since there is an algorithm for the hot pixels, not sure about Nikon.

You could try calling up Nikon to see what they have to say about it.
