Hi, I was wondering what (if any) is the gas mileage hit by going from stock 17" wheels to 19" wheels with 225mm wide tires of similar brand and type? For example, if I'm getting about 45mpg on stock, what can I expect? Please no speculation, I'd like to get answers from people who have performed the upgrades first hand. Thanks in advance.

If you could keep the wheel weight about the same, you won't take much of a hit on MPG. When I went from 17" to 19" on my Mini Cooper, I gained about 2 MPG. My new wheels were much lighter the ones came with car and the tires became thinner profile so lighter too.

I didn't change out the CT wheels and tires because I learned my lesson from the Mini. When I went to 17" to 19", the ride was much much rougher... and Mini is not known for its comfortable ride to begin with.

I haven't found this to be true for my CT. I put 18" Enkei rims and definitely lost MPG although the Enkeis are lighter than OEM. Before I was getting 48-49 displayed MPG and now I get about 43-44. I didn't use Fuelly w/ stock tires, but with the Enkeis I get about 41-42 MPG on Fuelly.

ychachad, if you do some research and you'll find most others are like me and have lost MPG w/ upgraded wheels. I'd also recommend getting a staggered setup in order to compensate for the rears so you don't need to run spacers.

Thanks for all your help. I've decided to stick with my perfectly good set of tires and wheels and not take the drop in fuel economy. Rest assured, to each one of you, all your time and help was greatly appreciated.

Are the new tires wider? Because if they are the same width and the diameter of wheel+tire is the same as before and the whole thing is lighter... you should not get worst MPG. I guess it also depends on the type of tires... I was using all season tires instead of sport performance tires.

BTW, my Fuelly MPG is always about 3MPG lower than my displayed MPG on the CT.

Wheel weight, tire weight, tire width will all make more difference. I switched from stock wheels 17x7 Torres 215/45-17 to ultra lightweight wheels 17x8.5 tires 245/40-17 and didn't take much of a hit in mpg.
