Default CT Heat (how does it Work)

How does CT200 Heat work? Is it just like any other car using engine coolant. It seems too fast for just engine coolant.

It’s the unseen engineering details that really make a difference in the CT’s fuel efficiency. For example, an exhaust heat recovery system uses the heat of spent exhaust gases to speed engine coolant warm-up.

I think CT has electric heating elements in the vent ducts.

edit. I checked it from the wiring diagrams. There is a "quick heater assembly", which is fed via 40 A fuse

This is the kind of stuff that not only sets Lexus aside, it makes it more fun to drive knowing how well thought out it is. The technology in these cars is astounding. Take a look at how the CV Transmission and Atkinson style engine work together to maximize mileage by maximizing the output of the engine.

I was just thinking of this recently because I was wondering how it makes heat if the engine is off. My concern is that it would have to turn the engine on when it wasn't necessary for power, just to make heat. I feel like the engine does come on more when the heat is turned up but I don`t know if it is to make heat via the engine block, or to generate electricity to power electric heaters...

Maybe it does both. I used obd-software on my phone on one cold day to see how it works, and coolant temperature fell rapidly while engine was off (even with lower grille blocked). Heater takes a lot of energy when outside temp is below - 10 C / 14 F, and it seems that the coolant temp is required to be over 50 C / 122 F before hybrid system shuts the engine.
