Default Ambient Light Sensitivity

I'm trying to figure out what the "light sensitivity" setting in the Vehicle Customization actually affects.

What I'm trying to change is when the headlights come on, trying to get them to come on earlier so that they're more likely to come on automatically when it's raining.

All the documentation just says it's more or less sensitive, not what the effect is. Does more sensitive mean they come on earlier?

Anyone been able to observe a real difference when changing the setting?

OK, I did some experimenting with this at dusk today and I think I've decoded the behavior.

If you move the setting on the Ambient Light Sensor towards the "+" (the right), the headlights (using the Auto setting) turn on earlier (i.e., when it is lighter). If you move the setting to the left, towards the "-", the lights go on later (i.e., when it is darker).

I maxed out mine to the right so that they will go on earlier at dusk and more likely to switch on when it's raining.

Enjoy!

I put mine (ES350) on the left most but still turns on the light earlier.

Yes, I'm not convinced I have the setting right either. It was very dark yesterday during some intense rain and they would not go on automatically. I'm going to try the setting to the left also.

Anybody else out there deciphered this setting?

Calif law requires headlights during the rain, but the Lexus is not smart enough to turn them on when the wipers go on.

Like Boatguy, my experimentation with this is that the "light sensitivity" is really a "darkness sensitivity".

There's a separate "delay" option which is a dealer setting in Australia for a normal (short) or long delay. Even the long delay isn't long enough to prevent the headlights coming on when driving through a short underpass.
