True the mirrors and looking around definitely help but the rear camera acts like a second pair of eyes in the vehicle's blindspots. After having the sensors in previous cars and now the camera in both my Audi and CT, I don't think I'd ever buy another car without them. They truly make reversing much easier.

This is really silly. People rely way too much on technology these days. Nothing beats a good driver and learning some parking skills

I think there was some sort of patent issue that prevented Lexus from having lines in the US/Canada for back up cameras that display on our NAV screens.

I agree with you Hoovey that technology can be a crutch to which people can rely on too much and then get themselves into trouble. But like the seatbelts, ABS, and traction control, the rear camera definitely can and does help people reversing which is why they will soon be mandatory in cars. Now I'm not saying to use it to drive backwards quickly but the rear camera can help judge distances better when parking. I remember my days in the Army and having to back up a Humvee with a trailer and only a ground guide and side mirrors to place everything in position properly. There wasn't a rear center mirror because the back hatch was fully covered. A rear camera definitely could have helped matters immensely. I think we are all in agreement that a rear camera by itself will not park a car as is only looking around without using the mirrors. But the camera combined with all three mirrors and turning one's head, definitely makes for a safer operation of the car in reverse (at slow speeds).

agreed 100% you shouldnt be relying on a backup camera to back up. if you cant tell your about to hit a car while backing up, even with a back up camera, well im glad i dont live near you.
