Default Homelink mod

Posted this on CTForums as well. I'm looking at Homelink options for a CT without Premium Audio. I know about the Gentex mirrors but was trying to figure out if replacing the overhead controls on a CT without Premium audio with the controls that come with Premium Audio a viable solution.

Need to look find out the cost of the part and what needs to be replaced. I've seen this done on Honda's for cheap and the part is plug and play.

Here's the picture of the overhead controls that come with Premium Audio. The controls for CT's without Premium Audio don't have the Homelink buttons.

If this could be done cheaper than a Gentex Mirror I would go this route. I have no need for Premium Audio and just wanted it for Homelink. Thanks.

It should work. As long as you have a power line going to the mirror (existing standard auto dimming/compass) you're set.

Huh? I wasn't asking about installing the Gentex mirror. I know that will work as long as there is power to it.

I want to know if I can order the overhead console for the CT that has homelink and install that into the CT without homelink. Should be a simple swap. I want to know how much that console costs to determine if that's a better way to go than installing a Gentex mirror. Thanks.

Try the dealer parts dept. They should be able to tell you if they have or will be getting one.

sorry to bring up an old thread...
I'm interested in a homelink mod as well for my new CT.

instead of the $773 part, I was thinking of modding the existing overhead assembly and putting in something like this which can be had from ebay for cheap. has anyone ever took out the assembly? Is it difficult? Is there any other place you would recommend putting the mod?

to remove the assembly.. just grab the back side (closest towards the windshield) and pull down.. its only held up by 4 clips...
