5 Axis Lexus CT 200h
Custom-Built Tuner Lexus CT 200h to Debut at Chicago Auto Show
February 04, 2011
/ By Steve Diehlman

Lexus may have established itself globally as a luxury brand, but now the automaker wants everyone to know that it can play in the performance segment too. The Chicago Auto Show. will host a performance variant of Lexus new CT 200h prepared by 5 Axis.

For the vast majority of its existence, Lexus has positioned itself strictly as a premier automaker, and in doing so has led the United States in sales for the luxury segment for some time. However, a few years ago Lexus broadened its horizons with the introduction of the IS F performance sedan followed by its 1st supercar, the LFA..

Come March Lexus' new CT 200h will enter the market as the most fuel efficient luxury vehicle in America with a combined fuel economy of 42 mpg. Starting at $29,995, the new Lexus will undercut every model in the luxury automaker's lineup in price. While the model will certainly attract bargain luxury shoppers and fuel misers, Lexus is also hoping to draw in those looking for something more performance-oriented.

Lexus will show off some performance possibilities of the CT 200h at the Chicago later this month, with a bespoke example created by custom car builder 5 Axis. Continuing with its Dark Side of Green theme, the car is sprayed in a hue the dubbed Dark Passage. 5 Axis grafted custom sheet metal to the fenders making way for new 7-spoke 19-inch forged wheels. Tein springs at the corners lower the hatchback, while a Stoptech Big Brake kit up front will work to bring the 3130-pound hybrid to a stop. Inside, a custom center console and Ultrasuede seating surfaces will show what else is possible for the sport-luxury hybrid.

Unfortunately no engine modifications were made to the car, but with class-topping fuel economy figures, slick looks, and a starting price south of $30,000, Lexus dealers should have no trouble moving the hatchback off their lots. From the factory, the CT 200h may have mediocre performance figures, but with endless customization possibilities do you think the CT 200h will gain traction in the tuner scene?

THING IS BADASS!! Love it

Yes, it is indeed a bit odd that Lexus chose to show off a tuned version of its CT 200h hatchback at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. Generally speaking, such machines are reserved for events more along the lines of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Still, here we are in the Windy City and there's this Five Axis-tuned hybrid on the stage; we couldn't help but shoot it for your viewing pleasure.

In addition to the custom widebody kit, this CT 200h wears a unique coat of paint and features a lowered suspension courtesy of Tein along with upgraded brakes from Stoptech. Want to see more? Check out the gallery of live images below... and do try to overlook the horrible lighting afflicting the Lexus stage in Chicago.

Very cool. I wish it was a lighter color so you can actually see the design better. Kinda hard to see the design with the dark paint.

Besides the outrageous front and rear bumpers, this basically looks like how the CT200h should have looked if Lexus had enough ***** to make committed lines and details in their design. Troy and their team simply accentuated the shoulder line to over the front fender, and the additional shoulder line over the rear wheel so that it looks like a cohesive design idea, and not just a random disjointed line like it does on the stock car. They flared out the rocker panel line too. Those minor line changes really make this car look stunning.
