Default Roof Channel Plastic

Does anyone know if you can remove the plastic channels on the roof? I don't want to break them trying to pull them off incorrectly. I want to clean under them because there is always dirt and mildew that seeps out of them whenever I wash the car.

Also while we are on the subject, can you attach a roof rack to the channel without having to clamp it to the door frame?

I've taken them off when I wrapped my roof. Start at either end and carefully pull up so as not to bend the strip. The middle part comes off easily.

When I had my car in for body repairs, they had to order this part late and install it after the fact so I saw them. The guy literally swapped it out in 5 seconds. He just pulled it from the back, lifted up, and it just lifted out using his fingers. so it shouldn't be that hard. i think there's small clips that just press in straight down one rear and one front
