Default Can I swap out the navi system to newer year's?

I'm considering buying a 2014 CT, and it's navigation/entertainment system just looks ancient. Given how little CT changed between 2012 and 17 model years, has anybody though of swapping out the whole module with a newer year's model?

This is what I did. I said I wanted Navi, went in looked at a non Navi car. Negotiated on the fact that it didn't have Navi. Bought it without Navi and backup camera and installed my own with the savings.

I have a Kenwood dnx893s with all Kenwood stuff in it besides the JL audio sub. Kenwood xr900.5, xr1800p fronts, xr1800 rears, and JL audio sub 10tw1. All that is probably less than the up charges for the lousy factory Navi. Look on the face book group you'll see photos of several cars with aftermarket installed. My car probably the stealthiest system.

I think he means swapping 2014 OEM nav with 2017 OEM nav. To my knowledge, they are the same.

Yes, that's what I am thinking about. The software in 2017 is way better. I was wondering if anybody done something like that.

Kind of answering my own question: the cost of Gen9 replacement unit is close to $2,800, making it completely unreasonable.

I did some Google searching when you first posted, but didn't really find what the actual differences are. Do you have any links or pics that show the difference between 2014 and 2017?

The hardware is separated by generation. Based on the list of map updates, the latest one for CT is Gen8. http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what-to-order/

For example, starting 2016 CT has 3D navigation view and a different app set, and these features aren't available on older hardware.

Hmm..that link seems to be related to software, not hardware. No way they would only charge for $1-200 for upgrading to GEN8-9.

The "generation" is related to hardware, the software versioning is different. Here's a page that speaks of benefits of updating to v16. http://www.lexusnavigation.com/why-update/

Also, you can see that the stop updating old generations eventually.
