Brake upgrade idea -- thoughts?
I searched and haven't seen anyone discussing this yet. But our cars use Prius brakes. Yeah, they're tiny @ 261mm or 10.2". For the most part, they work. But if you have the F-Sport with tuned suspension, you might want to do some spirited driving. I don't think our brakes are able to cope well with a 3,300+ lb car. I tested it the other day and didn't feel confident.
So I looked around at parts diagrams and it would SEEM that the 2011-2016 Scion TC's front calipers/pads and rotors would work on our cars. They're 296mm or 11.6". Even the brake lines seem close to identical. Of course they don't match my previous BMW's brakes at 325mm or 12.8"--and that was in the year 2002!
I checked all available dimensions online and the TC brakes seems like a very good candidate for a direct bolt on swap. As mentioned, the TC rotors are a good size larger. 35mm larger in diameter and 3mm thicker. hub surface to inside rotor face is .6mm smaller on the TC.
The only dimension i'm curious about is the caliper bracket. Visually they look identical but I can't find dimensions anywhere.
I might buy a single TC caliper at my local autozone and test fit it.
Yes I realize there will be a weight penalty. More mass to rotate. I'd say i'm 50% serious about this mod.
Other candidates might be Rav4 brakes (the V6 ones are supposed to be big)
Not looking for anything crazy. Just something not Prius that can cope with slightly spirited driving. The car definitely has the chassis for fun driving.

Been doing more research. Seems the 06-11 Rav4 V6 uses this same caliper and rotor as the 11-16 TC, as well as the '16 IM, and 11-16 Rav4. Same as 09 AWD Matrix and newer matrix 4 cyl. So its very common.
Looking more at the Prius spindle, seems the top of the caliper MIGHT come into contact with the spindle but can be remedied by grinding. Of course, it may clear altogether and I hope I'm wrong.

Prius brakes or not I find them really good.
On the few occasions I've needed to do emergency braking the tires will lock up and squeal (for like, less than a second courtesy of ABS) and disengage and the tires chirp again until the thing is completely stopped and that's with about 500 pounds worth of humans in the cabin. If they have the power to cease tire rotation very quickly that ain't bad.
But eventual brake fade might be an issue if you keep hammering on the brakes.
Another thing to consider is tires with better traction since they work in conjunction with the brakes. But now you're diminishing MPG if you go that route. Depends what your priorities are.
Oh, yes. Please tell if you do upgrade your calipers with something beefier, would be nice to know.

I agree with Zwolfe. Unless you have already replaced the OEM tires AND verified they do not engage the ABS on an emergency stop, upgrading the brakes won't do you any good. I will even wager you will not take this car on the track enough to warrant the work involved in upgrading the brakes either.
As far as doing the upgrade for the sake of upgrading, well, that's your call, but for me personally, I would change the following 3 items even before considering what you're proposing...
Tires > pads > brake fluid. If these don't satisfy you, then by all means have at it.

Are those parts even compatible with our hybrid brake system? The regenerative brakes do most of the work anyway.
See if EBC makes some Green Stuff or Yellow Stuff pads for these cars. Or Hawk. They will increase braking grab.

I found a big brake kit for the Prius that may work. Check with the supplier as they do not list the CT200h.

I've heard the opposite. A friend of mine in the suburu community said that people upgrade their brembos to K sport on their sti's. I have looked into the k-sport package and it would work, but it is too expensive for me.
The only other company that will make a big brake package for the Ct200h is CEIKA. I wrote to them last year to see if I could get a group discount but I never ended up following through because I live in Canada and our dollar is **** right now. They have good prices however many people are not willing to take a chance on a new company. I have heard mixed reviews. This is the email they sent me with the prices:
