Default Change oil sign...

Hi everyone,

I have a question about motor oil since the first change oil sign lit up a couple of weeks ago.
I am currently stationed in Germany and the only reputable/trustworthy(in our opinion)
choice of place to do so is at the dealership where we bought our CT.(it helps that they have
this great policy...if you bought your car there and bring your own oil, they do it for FREE!)

Anyway...they recommended to bring 0-20W oil but for some reason, I cannot find them any
place here in Germany. Granted, we only searched within military community because of the
price difference. And so I called the dealership again to see what are the alternatives and they
told me it is 5W-30. Is it recommended by other CT200 owners here?? Which oil do you use?

Also, I am somewhat confused about the 'brands'...when I searched amazon, they had other
brands that made 0-20W...I have only heard about Mobil 1... I have no idea which brand to
go with...(even within the mobil, they had formula 1, super 3000, etc,...)

I would be very appreciative, if anyone could tell me which brand and grade(?) of oil I should
use for my CT. (not F-Sport model but I do use sport mode sparingly when driving on the
Autobahn)

Thank you for reading my post.

I would stick to 0W20 and TGMO. However, if that were not available, Mobil 1. Being in Europe, there are many high quality oils available from Pentosin and ELF. I wouldn't hesitate to use those if I had to.

roadfrog,
Thank you for your reply!
Um...would you mind telling me which Mobil 1 you would recommend?(you would pick...)
I am so sorry but I am not at all familiar with the 'kinds of oil'...(i,g, 0w-20, 5w-30...the number part...)

I would appreciate any info.

CTbean, stick with the same weight of oil listed on your oil cap, 0W20 in this case. This is the proper oil that the engine was designed to use. If you choose any Mobil1 product in the weight, you will be just fine.

This.

Just be sure it's full synthetic, as Mobil 1 manufactures synthetic blends as well.

Here's one of their products you can use:

@CTbean are you still under warranty? Because if you are and you used a different type of oil it could void your warranty. If not then my second questions is does it snow in Germany? I only ask because is the "0" in 0w20 is the cold velocity rating for example "the oil on cold starts" and 20 is the weight of the oil. Meaning when oil is at operating temperture it holds a weight of 20. "oil thins when it gets hot" So 5w20 10w20 will hold the same weight as 0w20 at operating temperature. So if all you can find is 5w20 and it does not snow in Germany you should be fine with 5w20.

Total is a huge French oil company that makes terrific motor oil that you should be able to find in Germany

I have used their oil and highly recommend it.
