I have a 2011 and I only get 28 to 36 mpg.
Most of the time around 31 mpg. My last 10 fuel ups average 30.7 mpg.
I drive normally with a lot of interstate driving and that is what you can expect to get.

The only way people get into the 40s for 50s is the must be driving everywhere at 20 mph.

The normal fill ups are 8.5 to 9 gallons. The tank is ridiculously small, so vs a corolla you have to stop at the gas station a lot more in a CT.

I get 260 to 290 miles per tank in between fill ups.

Well no. I live in Switzerland where there are alot of ups and downs with a very mixed driving of traffic/motorway(70miles/hour)/open twisty roads and I get an average of around 40 MPG (american ones). Sometimes more, sometimes less... Maybe you don't interact well enough with your car not letting it charge it's hybrid battery? I have to admit I always keep an eye on the hybrid charging diagram to try to get the best out of it... It's a game really

I usually run about 50 mpg (US) on mine, which would give me a theoretical range of 600 miles on 12 gallons. I didn't want to run my car out of gas, but I'd like to see how close I can get.

Yesterday, I drove 508 miles at 51 mpg, and filled up 9.977 gallons until the click (check my 5/14 fuelly log). This tells me I should have nearly 2 gallons left in the tank, but would burden the fuel pump if I went that far (another 100 more miles). I did run my previous car (a Prius C) out of gas, and the numbers matched up with what Toyota says the tank capacity is.

Keep in mind, even though I don't recommend this, that I topped off the tank in the past, and it takes 3 extra gallons. We're talking 15 gallons total to the brim (750 mile range @ 50 mpg).

AWESOME~.

around what mileage does your fuel gauge begin to light up? Mine begins to light up about 393 gallons and the gauge is 1 knot above the "E". then after like 20 minutes of driving, the gauge will hit bottom (lower than "E")

Is my gauge malfunction?
Do you know?

I typically get over 500 miles to the tank. My best is 642 miles on 11.8 gallons (76 miles past "0")...

I commute about 33 miles each way to work along two major NJ highways. I decided to get to know the slow lane and stop rushing to the office. I now average 53 miles per gallon. It's easy to do if you just let up on the gas peddle and stop trying to speed around everywhere.

I drive a 2011.

How long is the commute?
What kind of speeds do you drive at?
Also, do you try to keep it in eco or do you let it go into power?

I have a 2011 and I get 28 to 35 mpg.
I just cannot see how 53 mpg is possible unless you are driving under 30mph most of the way.

My average right now is 31.1mpg. In my opinion someone can only reasonably expect around 32 mpg with a CT200h.

I drive on mostly interstate at 75 mph (speed limit is 70) on cruise control, 15 minute commute, no traffic so not accelerating to pass people. Mix of eco and power.

You can see my Fuelly results by clicking below.

I average 38.7 and I gave a heavy foot. My hyway driving is at 72 MPH cruise set and I get around 38 mpg at that speed. My local driving gets about the same. Worst tank was 34.6 mpg and best was 42.6 in 23,000 miles.

Original tires. 99% of time air conditioner is on set to 73 degrees.

I had a Prius before this and it got 8 mpg better.

My wife was averaging 52 mpg with the Prius when her commute was 15 miles with max speed of 45 mph and multiple red lights. When her commute changed to 4 miles the mpg dropped to 35 mpg. Still not bad. She would only use about 1 gallon a week. The gas engine ran most of the time to get coolant up to temp.

I reset it today to get a clean look at it. I had 4 total trips, so 140 miles total over the course of around 3 and a half hours. Here is where it ended up at the end of the day:

Two trips were trying everything i could to keep the car in EV mode, slow lane the entire time, going under the speed limit. The other two trips were going as fast as I could without getting pulled over.

I can only fill up up to 8 gallons. I get gas when i have 70 miles left to go. My gas warning lights up when i have 30 miles left to drive. I've had my car for a little over 6 months and i have about 6000mi on it.

I drive it daily to work and i average 32-34 mpg.
Im wondering where the 3 gallons went also since i can never fill it up all the way up to 11 gallons. I hardly ever put 8 gallons as to i never let it be below 50 mi to drive left. When i fill it up i only get about 376-385miles to drive. im from CA. 2015 CT F Sport.

That is normal, i still dont know how people say they get 40+ mpg.

This weekend I tried to get the mileage up as much as possible.
I coasted and drove as much residential/slow streets as I could. I tried to stay around 20 or less on residential streets. I never went above 40 during this time.
When I braked, I did slowly to keep it in the charge band without engaging the mechanical brakes.

I got 38 mpg doing this, but it also depleted the battery quickly.
If putting in extreme effort only gets 38 mpg then I am really confused at how people say they get better than that.

last week i tried driving on ECO mode and it went up to 42.5 MPG. but i was driving hella slow. like on the freeway i was super slow until it reached the speed limit. it took me a few minutes before i reached 65 mph. and i tried not the step on the gas too much, not letting it hit power most of the time. and keeping my RPM on eco. so i guess those with higher MPG drive really slow and are always on ECO mode.

Nope.

The secret to good MPG without driving very slow is highway driving. Stick to 60 mph and you'll see great numbers (use cruise for more consistency). It's always much harder to get good city MPG because of the constant acceleration.

I drive using medium to hard acceleration in the city, keeping my speed at 5 MPH over the limit as a max, with 60 MPH as my personal top speed on any road. I drive 25% city and 75% highway and end up with 50 to 53 real world MPG, while the car reads between 53 and 56 MPG.

Also, I never use ECO mode, and I discourage anyone from using it. My A/C is 100% on and on auto, usually running about 2 or 3 bars of fan speed.

In city driving you can glide in EV mode, which will improve mpg (you have to press gas pedal just a bit or engage neutral gear to stop regen). I'm usually getting better mpg in city driving vs constant speed on highway.
