Default Foreign object in my hybrid fan

So i took my car to a Lexus dealership for a fan rattle from the vent next to the rear seat. My service advisor tells me a foreign object is wrapped around the fan like a spool and even shows me, looks like a tissue or cloth of some sort and they charge $270 to take it out. Now they say they will call lexus tmrw and discuss it with them.

So that was the culprit of the loud fan, correct?

i don't know, that sounds bogus. i have complained a lot about noise issues , very tiny in nature, since my first lexus in 1998. they have NEVER once charged me to find the noise, diagnose it and reduce or eliminate it.

unless they can prove you jammed a foreign object into the fan, i don't see how they get away with charging you $270 if the car is still under warranty (which i am assuming it is).

Warranty covers manufactured defect.

Squeaks and rattles like shocks and bushings are covered under warranty because the fault is caused by a failed part. In this case, the noise was a result of foreign material getting in the battery fan, NOT a defective part.

And don't even try to suggest that it's a "poor design."

On page 38 of your owners manual, there is a whole page warning you to not put foreign objects near the air vent, or the hybrid battery (traction battery) may overheat and be damaged. (Fan being part of battery system)
