I would say never buy a prepaid maintenance plan. Too many unknowns - you move, the dealership relolcates, the service department deteriorates and you want to go somewhere else or you just want to follow a different maintenace schedule than what your plan allows for. Most Lexus require very little maintenance anyway - I get by for about $125 per year.

the prepaid maint plan that was offered to me when i bought my CT wasn't limited to any dealership (i bought my CT in norcal, but I live in socal so i had asked whether or not I was gonna be restricted to getting prepaid maint service at the dealership I bought the car from and the guy said it's for ANY dealership, socal or norcal, or another state). I didn't buy the prepaid maint plan though, but only because i had read about how little maintenance the CT needs in comparison to non-hybrids.. but if you do get the prepaid maint plan from lexus, know that the price is negotiable :] (as i was signing the ppwk, the guy wrote down a price that was something like 30% off the listed prepaid maint price and told me if i changed my mind within the next couple days, he can honor that price for me)

The beauty of buying a Lexus is that it does not cost an arm and a leg to operate and maintain like BMW or Mercedes. I would skip the maintenance and buy the extended warranty.

Since the CT has been out for a little over a year, I have yet paid for service. The 5,000 mile service is free and the 10,000 mile service is also free. The first service that you pay for is the 20,000 mile service. I don't know if the prepaid service is needed.

Agree with others here - prepaid service is rarely a "deal". Skip it and consider the extended warranty instead (go for one of the 8 year plans, $0 deductible.)

Read the maintenance schedule. I don't have it in front of me but I believe the 60k requires replacing the air filter, cabin air filter, oil filter and oil change, brake fluid and rotating your tires......and inspecting about 20 things that more than likely will not need anything. Find a qualified mechanic that specializes in Toyota/Lexus and save yourself a few thousand dollars.

Default Worth it?

No. I had a Porsche before my CT. Dealer charged astronomical fees for oil changes/maint. I discovered the actual labor to perform the maint. was a fraction of what I was being charged. Found a local shop that would do oil changes for $78 instead of $450. Sadly, the same is true of lexus. You can do better.

In the SF Bay Area, the cost ranges from $229 to $249 for the 20K service (first paid oil change).

I pay a similar amount for my RX400h in SoCal for my regular 5k mi intervals. It's a ripoff that's for sure but I like the service.
