Lightbulb What's the BEST MPG someone has gotten so far? Anyone hit magic 50 mark?

So far we love our CT and my wife DD's it most of the time to work. She seems to have a light foot and gets around 44.8mpg on her drives. She uses all ECO mode but I was debating with her over another thread I saw where some guys were saying you can actually GAIN mpg by using the sport mode?

Does Cruise Control help or hurt MPG? What about top speed?

How about everyone post up their MPG's and state how they achieved it? It would be fun to compare notes to see what is the best combination.

I should note we have 2000 miles on our CT and we use regular fuel in the car.

cheers!

I am interested as well. But knowing the type of driving would be a big help. Our commute will be 30 miles RT on the highway 2x day. To old to have a heavy foot but my cruise is always set on 72 to avoid the popo.

49.5 is the best we have gotten. My wife kept having me take photos with the iPhone from 47 on ;-)

If you hyper mile you can easily hit 50. My current avg since last tank refill is 51mpg. My mpg usually ranges between 50-53

I drive over several hills around town and tried one tank to see how much I could get and it worked out to be about 46.5 mpg. The next tank I kept it in sport mode 100% of the time and drove the way I normally drive (traded in a GS400 for my CT so I pretty well push it pretty much all the time) and averaged nearly 41 mpg. I haven't taken it out of sport mode since and after 6,000 miles I am averaging 41.4 mpg. Seriously doubt I will ever see eco mode and would only use normal mode if on the Interstate using cruise control.

Sport Mode and 41 mpg keeps me happy.

Surely no one is foolish enought to believe they will get ANY benefit running premium gas in this 4 banger. I could understand using 100% gas and no ethanol but even then not sure it would be cost beneficial for mpg.

I've had this car as a loaner for a little over a week now. We took it to Austin last weekend and got right around 52mpg. It's about a 450 mile trip total. I think average speed was around 70mph and we were in normal mode.

Wow you guys are GOOD - are you guys mostly doing highway or flat ground local driving?

Here in CA - we have a lot of hills and my wife passes through some valleys with some serious grade drops and there is also the wind factor in the valleys. These add up to a lot of resistance when climbing uphill

She drives in only ECO mode and has a pretty light foot though I don't know what speed she cruises at....

For myself, going uphill I have no choice but to hit the PWR range in ECO mode so I just use the SPORT mode otherwise I find myself lagging and holding up traffic as my speed drops dramatically.

What are some techniques you guys use and how does it work?

Hypermiling?

Pseudo "Pulse and glide"?

what is OBC?

I found this from another forum and thought it was very interesting:

Osamu Sadakata (chief Engineer for the CT 200h says: "When Sport Mode is selected engine revs are held higher. The PCU (Power Control Unit) that controls the hybrid system boosts supplied voltage by 150volts to a maximum of 650 volts, increasing overall powertrain output. Sport Mode also provides more linear Electric Power Steering (EPS). Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control are less intrusive allowing for more lively driving".

Normal driving --> ~48mpg
Aggressive --> ~43mpg
Driving like a grandma (e.g. causing traffic LOL) --> ~51mpg

These numbers are based on manual calculation.

I live in North West Jersey. Drive over hills and if I push over 70, get about 39 to 40 mpg on average. The best MPG I have ever got in my CT was 49.5 going between 50 and 55 driving in rural Vermont with no hills.

This was the calculated mpg from the fill-up. The car computer was 51.2?

I've had a CT200h loaner car for a bit.

Drove one trip for 23.4 miles and the trip computer showed 62.1 MPG.
But by the end of the tank, I was down to 52 MPG.
Still pretty damn good. Computer showed range of 451 miles after filling the tank!

This is with very minimal upward hills and almost all highway driving. With going thru the hills and all back to my parents house, i'm still at around 46 MPG on the trip computer which is excellent.

I'm seriously considering the CT200h as my next car

Don't drive with ECO mode......
Normal mode does better MPG. (for me)
