Default Consumer Reports CT200 most reliable

I was at the supermarket the other day and browsed the latest issue of Consumer Reports and their annual best car piece.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the CT200H was NUMBER 1 on their most reliable list. Cheers everyone! High fives, head nods of approval, big hugs and chest bumps all around!

That's great but the car has only been out for 1.5-2 yrs.
Hard to judge.

I waited a year before getting my CT. I got burned before when I got one of the first 800 IS300's that rolled off the boat back in 2000.

Good to know, been thinking about buying one since it came out. But wanting to wait now to see if there will be a style refresh soon. Does any one known when one is coming?

1) Replaced stereo twice (different problems each time).

2) Seatback replaced (took forever... part had to come from Japan and then a special shop had to pull the leather/ecsaine/foam off the old seatback and put it onto the new one)

3) Plastic shielding under car replaced 3 times (keeps getting ripped off by the wind at highway speeds, and I had a ~200 mile commute daily at the time).

4) One leaking rear shock (which I'm sure if it wasn't under warranty, they'd insist that I'd replace the pair, instead of just one)

5) "pinhole" leak inside limited slip differential which caused noises (didn't make sense to me either, but that's what they told me after the warranty expired)

6) Bent 4 out of 5 rims (including the full sized spare). Not enough suspension travel, so it's kinda unforgiving with potholes.

7) Tire recall (not Lexus's fault, but somehow I suspect the weak sidewall contributed to my bent rims). Kinda good, because I got a new set of tires out of the deal.

8) Improperly tempered glass used for the moonroof. I thought someone had broken into my car, it just "popped" in the sun.

Other than being @ the dealership every other month, I really loved the attention that car got. It was HOT at that time (1st 800 in the US, and mine was the ~400th), and I got positive comments from everyone, even from strangers at the gas station. I guess paying MSRP + a markup will result in sky high expectations that no car can realistically live up to. But I think I was just unlucky with that car. Still, I traded it less than 2 years later with an 02 WRX (absolutely LOVED that car). It took 10 years before I'd even look another Toyota/Lexus. I'm glad I came back... I love my CT.

Just for fun, here's a pic of my IS300 being traded in for a WRX back in 2002.

nice read! I had a 2001 IS300 from 02-05 and remember getting 5 new tires for that recall......

then I crashed it (drag racing at the 1/4 track) and quickly picked up an 05 that I still have and drive on weekends to car shows, and "fun drives" it has a Supra engine with Single turbo and only about 500 HP

I love my CT as well and enjoy driving it every day!!!
