I am ready to get my PPE headers installed.

@ Rollaboy thank for the pictures.

Can anyone share their experience for the SC430 having a shop install? Labor hours? Total cost? I plan on doing the motor mounts (from Megan) at the same time. Any other recommendations?

I have quotes between 14-16 hrs at $90-95/ hr ( normal in this area). Does that seem right?

Any comments about problems or complications during the install?

Holy **** that's more than the headers themselves. I would never go to a shop I never dealt with or without a referral.

Anyone has any idea if motor mounts are different in ls430 and sc430??

Sounds like Dealer Rates.. The common price would be $70 to $80/Hr .. The book does say 14 to 16 hours but most shops would get it done in about 4 to 6 hours depending on experience.

The book usually calls for engine removal which is not required. So if its a first time shop that is how they will quote it.

Headers were installed in about 12 hrs. Added 18whp. I will post dyno results in another thread. I'm back at the shop because the headers interfere with the steering column during a rt. hand turn above about 20 mph. The heat shield was totally remove - the binding is from the actual iron steering nuckle. The header pipe needs to be dimpled in that location and we will try grinding down a bit the sides of the knuckle.

Power and sound is great but not the steering - yet.

More later.

Default Steering nuckle rubbing on header fixed

I have been offline a bit and need to update my post. The problem is fixed after several iterations - I wasn't able to take pictures but it was the steering column nuckle that was rubbing on the driver side header with a right turn faster than 20mph. The right turn slightly pushes the engine over to the left side and causes the rubbing which doesn't let the wheel turn any more. With the install you cann't see that it will rub and the clearance looks good but with a turn at speed the gap goes away. The driver side header had clear rub marks on it.

The solution was to grind down the edges of the nuckle almost to a point where the shop wouldn't have gone further but we got it. I tested it on a track with fast turns and all good.

Note I had new Megan racing motor mounts installed with the headers and they are stiffer than oem.

So watch out for that issue with a new install. The corners on the nuckle need to be grinded off rounding it out.

^^^^ Good info! I'm having the same issue on my 2GS. I need to grind some more or even try to round out the edges on the joint to see if it clears. Now I know my steering rack bushings are worn ( waiting on figs ) and I thought maybe that was the cause of the rubbing but I think I'll give it a shot.

Is the rubbing issues a problem on the LS430 as well?

sorry it took a bit. This should help the GS and SC430 guys http://shopfigs.com/v1/LEXUS%20bushi...product_id=215

worn bushings can add tremendous amounts of slop...25mm side to side.

How long will it take to put in the bushings? It seems like a lot of work if the rack has to come out. Also I don't really want to be ghetto rigging the steering ball joint for the header it seems really unsafe.

they can be done on the car with the correct tools. Bushings were designed to be easily pressed in by a ball joint C-clamp style tool. The one from SPC works well on our website. Yes I would suggest doing things right. The headers are bent with the assumption of OK factory bushings. So this is one more thing to consider. It has to be this way because of how tight the fitment is.

How much harshness do the motor mounts add?
