You do not need anything upgraded. Hell, I put them on myself and a lot of members have. Take out the old ones, put in the new ones.
As for handling most agree, its NIGHT and DAY difference. You can take corners with much more speed and confidence.
This will work for all 2GS's 98-05.
These are a MUST, IMO.

I have had these installed going on 4 years and still love the ride. With my LTuned shocks and springs. The cornering and handling are way more sure footed than stock. Ride is a little stiffer than stock, meaning the car does wallow all the road and bob and weave. A stock BMW or Infiniti still rides stiffer than a GS with these roll bars. I think they compliment our cars perfect. Plus I am rolling on 19s" and love the ride. I can't stand really harsh riding vehicles and the GS is not with these installed, IMHO.
