Default Test Vehicles Needed: Headlight Restoration & Projector Lens Upgrade

Good day CL!

We have been a long time member here in CL, mainly in the SC300/SC400 forums, but let us introduce ourselves. We have been professional detailers for a little over decade, and we specialize in restoring and customizing headlights, fog lights, high beams and even tail lights. Our restoration process is nothing like what a $20 headlight restoration kit you can buy from any auto parts store guarantees to do but never deliver. We completely take apart any lighting parts that need attention. Scrape out the old glue and replace it with new glue, which is the exact same glue headlight manufacturers use, to prevent water seepage after reassembly. We can also replace any problematic parts like faded chrome reflectors, burnt lighting diffusers, etc. Once disassembled, we clean all parts with cleaning agents to remove any dust, dirt, grime, oil or contaminants. Most importantly, we sand down, buff and polish the lenses, inside and out, and the reflectors to look new again. After reassembly, we install a protective film as a permanent solution to turning yellow and weathering or abrasion from foreign objects or contaminants.

We understand that doing a projector retrofit to better your 2nd generation IS headlights' light output is very impractical. Due to the angled design of the stock projectors, to accomplish a projector retrofit, one will need to create additional holes as a bulb access, which can cause further problems with water seepage or debris getting in the headlights. Another issue from this is since most projector retrofit options have a smaller diameter, there will be a gap between the reflector and the projector without installing a shroud to cover that space. These issues are totally contradicting to what one is trying to accomplish. We on the other hand, have found a solution to attain the same light output and show quality cut-off line as a projector retrofitted headlight without retrofitting a different model projector.

We would like to introduce to you our Projector Lens Upgrade with Tuning Service. Instead of swapping the entire projector assembly, we can upgrade your projector lens to a corresponding clear lens with the same diameter and height focus to achieve the same light output custom projector retrofitted headlights provide. And with our tuning service, we will finely adjust the proper spacing and positioning of the projector lens to get that very sharp show quality cut-off line that people sought after in doing a projector retrofit modification.

We have done this to a 2nd generation IS in the past before we were even considered a business in this particular industry, which is why we wouldn't have pictures or documents that we can show you of our work. We are the only company by far that is able to mix up a detailing service and customizing headlights, not to mention with a permanent solution to our ever aging vehicles, and a Function > Form platform over modification.

We are currently looking for five (5) test vehicles to provide these two particular services we just explained. The pricing for our Permanent Headlight Restoration service vary by size. For the 2nd generation IS250/IS350/ISF, it is $255, parts included. And our Projector Lens Upgrade with Tuning Service is $150, parts included. As an introductory offer, the first five (5) members to contact us will only have to pay for the Permanent Headlight Restoration service and we'll upgrade your projector lens and tune it for free. Just simply ship us your headlights, you don't have to be local, and return shipping is already included in the pricing. Our standard turn around time is 5-7 business days.

The more beat up, weathered, yellow or pitted your headlights are, the better. The only things that irreversible are cracked or holes in headlights and faded or chipping chrome reflectors. We have other services available, just inquire if you're interested for it to be done like painted or black chroming the reflectors. Please visit our website for more detailed information of our services, and contact us through PM or email for any questions or concerns.

Here are a few pictures of our work. Some people we have worked with might be able to chime in as well.

This particular headlight was fully restored, and have had a projector lens upgrade with tuning service performed on it. The projector assembly is OEM and was not changed or swapped at all.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22063530655/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1970"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5665/22063530655_8883469516_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1970"></a>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21876636169/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1949"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/617/21876636169_bc6cbe2882_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1949"></a>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21875635918/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1968"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5690/21875635918_18b1a9ba07_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1968"></a>

One advantage of doing a projector lens upgrade is, the size, dimensions and specs of the projector is kept the same so there are no gaps or spacing, and the light output angle is also the same as stock.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22073510561/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1906"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/748/22073510561_91c9b7eb5f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1906"></a>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21875344920/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1973"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5778/21875344920_113682fce1_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1973"></a>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22073504101/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1933"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5765/22073504101_b5fd687cc0_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1933"></a>

Since the projector assembly is the exact same one, the rear gasket seals tightly and there's no risk of water seepage.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22073508411/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1928"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5625/22073508411_431216097c_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1928"></a>

The OEM levels are still intact for the ease of focus adjustment.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21875352850/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1963"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/712/21875352850_0ff1dbe877_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1963"></a>

This particular headlight is equipped with 5000K 35watt HID kit for testing.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21442387463/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1983"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/723/21442387463_e141f181fd_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1983"></a>

For comparison purposes: this is the light output of an OEM projector lens.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22037371676/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1884"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/643/22037371676_cb0b6890d2_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1884"></a>

Here is the stock projector assembly with the upgraded lens before our tuning service.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22051093752/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1987"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/726/22051093752_2d22938589_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1987"></a>

The SC300/SC400's projector cut-off lines actually vary by year.

Here is a 92-94 projector with the lens upgrade after we tune the focus.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21440711764/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1900"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5760/21440711764_b38a451ebf_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1900"></a>

My personal favorite, a 95-96 projector assembly with the lens upgrade after our tuning service.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22037370096/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1896"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5783/22037370096_48ee869a2a_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1896"></a>

And lastly, a 97-00 projector assembly with the lens upgrade after our tuning service. Only noticeable difference from the 92-94 is the patch of light on the upper left side due to an added hole to the cut-off plane.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/21442425653/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_1875"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/609/21442425653_f723cb10a1_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_1875"></a>

For reference of what exactly did we start with on this set, and so that people would see what we are capable of doing. Here are some before pictures of the exact same headlights you saw above.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22075941291/in/album-72157659670871481/" title="IMG_0751"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5828/22075941291_71c5fd77c5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0751"></a>

NOTES:
*We are not miracle workers. We cannot fix cracked or holes in the headlights and faded or chipping chrome reflectors.
*We have other services available, please visit our website for more information.
*We do not provide light bulbs or HID kits with any of our services. Upon doing any of these services, it is a common knowledge that light emitting parts needs to be upgraded from halogen to HID (High Intensity Discharge) Xenon bulbs.
*DDM Tuning is local to us, we can pre-install and buy HID kits by request for their retail price alone.
*This offer is only limited on a first-come-first-serve basis.

I've tried getting my headlights restored a few times, but there still seems to be some yellowness to it (perhaps inside oxidation?). Will you be able to protect the inside lens as well from further oxidation when you do the restoration? Let me know. I'm also interested in the lens replacement for that sharp cutoff.

That's a good question. The yellowing from the inside is not actually oxidation, it's rather a soot build up from halogen bulbs, like the park lights or headlight itself through time. This is why we highly recommend installing LED's for the park lights and a direct fit HID kit for the low beams, since those are mainly the lights that's turned on most of the time. By doing so, this will prevent carbon build up inside the lenses.

Ahh, I see. I have a 2008, so it uses halogen DRLs w/ the HID low beams. Maybe that soot is from the DRLs. Could I be one of the first 5 to get the free lens upgrade?

It's definitely coming from the halogen. And yessiree, you're still in the first 5, we'll send you our shipping address through PM and further details. Thank you!

Here is the difference between the OEM projector lens vs Clear Projector Lens Upgrade. The OEM projector lens have a textured surface to diffuse some of the light output.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22496934427/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_2318"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5761/22496934427_3f1d690beb_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_2318"></a>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/organizedgaragestatus/22496960508/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_2319"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5796/22496960508_d754ab4984_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_2319"></a>

While our Clear Projector Lens Upgrade have a completely clear and smooth surface to utilize optimum light output out of your HID system. With our Fine Tuning Service, we will tune the distance and focus of your projectors to get that crisp show quality cut-off line.

The OEM lenses had some soot build up on the surface that could've came from anything from moisture or burnt halogen bulbs that cause the light to come out discolored.

Take note of the sharpness of the cutoff line and how rich the color is with our Projector Lens Upgrade after the Tuning Service. The exact same OEM bulbs were used for testing.

I'm interested! I have new bulbs in my lights, but the inner lens is looking pretty terrible. I have some cracking and discoloration in the lens. Will you be able to remove those? I also have the adaptive auto leveling / corner adjusting lens, does that impact the service at all?

Good day DrGator! I think we would still be able to help you out. Those look like just some scratches and not cracks. The set we have posted is actually from a 350, with the auto leveling HID system. We won't be taking out the entire system, we're just going to replace the projector lens itself. I hope that answers your question. Thank you and let us know when you're ready!
