Did some research, went to Dynamic Auto in Fountain Valley and they ripped me off. Need a shop that can change out a alternator for my 96 SC400.

Recently got my alternator changed out and saw that my battery light is on, went to Autozone to get it checked out, they told me battery is still good and it should be since it was replaced on November of last year. Went to Dynamic since it got a lot of recommendation on here, spoke to Norman or whatever, he seemed rude. Son took care of my car afterwards and all he did was tighten the terminals of my battery, used a volt meter and told me my alternator was bad or something. Then he charged me $40 for all of that which i personally thought was a rip off.

He is honest and his cost is reasonable. He is ASE certified mechanic and was a master mechanic at Toyota dealership before he opened up his own shop in 2002. His small shop is always busy, though.

Every shop charges a diagnosis fee, doesn't sound like they did anything wrong. $40 for working on the car at all without any major work done actually sounds pretty reasonable. Most shops will apply diagnostic fees to major work if you chose to have them do it. Did you have them do any other work to the car?

The fee is is part of service industry: doctors, lawyers, accountant, plumber, electrician...etc. The appliance service guy charged $125 to come to the house. He replaced a $15 part and adding in labor of 15 minutes I paid him $195. He showed me how to fix the problem next time and didn't destroy the bag that contained the part#. (Prior appliance repair guys have destroyed packaging where the part# is so it takes some searching to find on certain appliances.)
