3rd Gen GS Transmission - tranny shops?
Just curious to see if anyone has had there Transmission rebuilt by any local shops. Im not having any issues (Knock on wood) but just curious to see who was out there and how well the work was performed. Haven't really heard much and after alot of reading and searching im seeing that these transmissions are pretty bullet proof. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks !
Thanks !

Various discussions about Type IV and WS trannies. Generally speaking, so long as the fluid is maintained to keep the additive-lubricant package in good standing, the tranny is going to go many-many miles.
The Type IV crowd does partial drain-refills at ~15K to 30K miles. I'm in that ~2quarts per 15K interval. The fluid in mine maintains a bright red color. The shift solenoids in the older LS's don't like dirty fluid and we see enough 200K+ mile samples with regular fluid changes that these are near bomb proof transmissions. Neglect them and they will shift poorly.
The WS crowd varies due to the "Lifetime" premise though sufficient discussions is 30-40K intervals for partial drains or 60K-80K for full drains. Because there is no dipstick, you'll take your best shot at what you want to do to maintain the transmission. Lots of supplemental discussion on the 4X4 forums regarding towing and off road with WS transmissions too.
Thinking that a lubricant package is going to go 200K+ miles is a big gamble. A simple fluid change can avoid unnecessary expense.
