Dynamic in Santa Ana. If your rotors are still in spec, they can be resurfaced so your main expense is pads-labor. Cost for mine front-rear with resurface was ~$200. The LS and my braking habits have been gentle, these are still the original rotors at 185K.

You can buy the pads on Sewell and have a shop do the labor.. Usually around 60 for labor and not sure about gs pads but IS low brake pads are about 80.

I usually get my work done at vinam.. Pretty reasonable and reputable shop.

No you do not, those items are typically reusable... I've never had to change mine on any of my cars.

Most brake pads come with shims, check the description of the product and its usually listed if their included. Most of the newer pads I have seen have the shims already attached to the pads.

Unless your rotors are really gone you should be able to have them turned for about 10-15 bucks each.

If you run your finger along the surface of the rotor, swipe from the center (hub) towards the outside. When you get to the very edge if you feel a deep gouge or lip created, (where the rotors most outer edge is higher than the rest of the surface) then you might need the rotors to be replaced.

Oh and you typically can reuse your oem shims also. they do not need to be changed every time unless they are damaged

If you have calipers or micrometer take a reading of your calipers and find out what the minimum service thickness is. I would advise you to not the rotors to the mass auto parts store for turning. They remove far to much rotor material.

Son at Dynamic knows his stuff and will preserve your wallet. OTOH, if the rotors are at their minimum, a DIY with the parts you listed is a good way to learn. Call Carson Toyota as well to compare prices.

RA40 is right about most people who turn rotors remove too much material. To me, those people that cut unnecessary amount is
1. Rookie for not knowing how to turn rotor properly.
2. Inconsiderate for shop equipment. Cutting too deep at once ruins cutting bit by over heating.

Nine out ten people who claims that they "work" on the cars doesn't know that about turning rotors.

You should be able to tell if a shop has good workmanship from the warranty they give you with each repair.
Most shop does not give you any.
Most only do one year parts warranty because from vendor, shop only gets one year parts warranty.

I've been wrenching for more a decade, so I always try to help out when I can. Either just an advise or a helping out fellow members.

Hope this helps for people that are new to neighborhood or looking for new shop to take precious cars to.
