As much as I love the nemo tent, it's probably my last long hike with it. It's just too bulky and heavy at 7 lbs and needs to be strapped it to the outside of my pack.

The rest of my gear has gone ultralight and I'll probably get a 1.5 pound tarptent to replace it, which packs down to the size of a pringles can. My 5 day starting pack weight was 36 lbs (including water and a bear canister) and I'd like it to be 30 lbs max.

I know some of the posted pics are last year, but MAHHN!!! SB350, those are beautiful shots. Incredible scenery!
Thank you for posting and inspiring. Was thinking, now that I have a ride again, where to go and get away from the city madness.

Curious as to your camera and lenses?
Amazing captures....

Thanks! Prior to my last hike, I would bring my cropped sensor Nikon D5100 with the 18-55 kit lens because it was relatively light weight. However on my last hike, I brought a mirrorless Olympus E-PM1 with an 8mm Panasonic Lumix Fisheye lens (The camera I use for underwater photography).

I brought the mirrorless this time because it was much lighter than bringing a dslr. The camera/fisheye lens, joby tripod, 14-42mm kit lens, extra battery, nd filter, and a case only added 3 lbs to my pack. A dslr is adds about 6 lbs.

Hey, Thank for the reply! I have a D90. Love the camera but it is heavy to pack, even on day-hikes, but, I still take it along everywhere I go. Your lens kit captures nice and sharp. I'm guessing also Nikon. Going to check that one out!
BTW, I have a Nemo Losi Storm. Bought for extended season camping. Also, enjoy the ease this sets up, but, I suspects it's better suited for car camping.

Nice pictures Kody! This is the first year in the last 15 where I didn't make it to Yosemite in some capacity. I heard all the waterfalls are completely dry right now

Thank you. Any lens can do this...shoot in Aperture priority and set a very narrow aperture like f/22. It will give you the starburst effect on all brilliant points of light. Prior to my last set of pictures, I was hiking with the cheap 18-55mm Nikon kit lens that came with my cropped sensor Nikon dslr. It's such a lightweight lens.

Thank you for sharing the tips ! I'm glued to my 18-200mm
Cheap 18-55mm ? LOL... I guess the lens is less important, rather the person behind the camera that makes a big difference...
