Speeding Ticket Help
Since it is my first ever ticket i need help from you guys. Any advice will be really appreciated.
When I went to San Fran last month, I got citation on I-5N near Fresno. I was in the traffic flow and driving around 85mph. I think there were about 6~7 cars driving about same speed. Then, two police trucks came from overpass and pulled over two cars and one was me. He asked me
"" how fast i was driving blah blah, I told him i was just following the traffic and wasn't aware of the speed. He told me I was driving 85.""
and then gave me citation for 80mph which is 10 over the speed limit of 70mph. Since it was the first time, i didn't ask to check whether i was clocked on their radar or anything for proof. On citation, There is no Radar Unit# or Patrol Vehicle#. Also Arresting officer and citation officer name are different.
I received the bail amount of $152 + 64 for traffic school last week. What do you guys think? The court is about 200 miles from where i live. The following are my questions:
1. Should i Contest or just pay the bail amount and go traffice school?
2. If i contest what are the chances?
3. If i fight and lose, can i still go to traffice school to avoid point penalty?
4. Any other options?
Thanks in advance.

You didn't have a radar detector, by any chance did you?
That would let you know if they used laser or radar on you.
Fighting a speeding ticket is always a gamble, in this case you have no experience in doing it. So I would say your chances of winning are slim.
You can hire a traffic lawyer or send in a written declaration, of not guilty and explain the situation to them. You can note, that they didn't mark proof of laser or radar.
Some lawyers know how to get away with this stuff, normal people don't..sad to say.
Keep in mind, the judge could be an @zsh0lle, and not let you take traffic school if you loose.

+1 for paying fine and going to traffic school. you don't have a real solid case, and you don't have any experience contesting a citation. also, if you do decide to fight it in person you'll have to drive 200 miles. you could do the trial by declaration, but again, goes back to your lack of a solid case and ticket-fighting experience. not worth it imo.

For that amount, i would vote like everyone else and say just pay the fine and take the traffic school to clear the point and be done with it. But incase your thinking about fighting it heres a link that might help.
