Im glad this thread is back here, im buyin the engine next month from a shop Kaiser recommended . but damn almost 7 grand for installation!? or is that with the price of the motor? so like 4 to 5 grand since i got my own motor and ill be buying all the parts myself?

See the problem is, one of the shops next to us does engine swaps. and they will do it for cheap cuz we known them for years. so like 1800 to 2000, and i dont think you can beat a price like that. but the thing is, they never done a 2jz swap, they done hondas, and subarus, and other toyotas. but never a 2jz, so im not sure if i should trust them to know how to do it, but i dont want to pay an extra 2 to 3 grand and take it to a known shop that does it.

i guess i could always read up on how to do it, and help them out by telling them what to do on certain parts. not sure if that made sense.

What do you guys think?

Take it to a shop that only focuses on Supra/Toyota/Engine swap in general.

You seriously can't compare a honda engine swap compared to a 2jz swap.

I highly recommend you not taking it there and would def. consider on taking it to Kaizen Motorsport.

They are currently doing my 2jz swap along with many other 1jz swaps.

They are highly specialists on Toyota only.

Call Jose and say Jowe from TWC recommended you, he is a great friend of mine and works very very verrryyy well with recommendations.

1 626 757 8540 Jose

They are located in Walnut, CA

p.s - BELIEVE me they do it the cheapest yet know the most compared to ANY other shops in CA.

Cheap swaps are a dime a dozen, it's the big question of will it last and is it done properly. And a lot of times a shop's definition of properly is "The customer paid and his car isn't sitting here no more." Jose does his stuff thoroughly and properly plus he gives you support after your car is done. I'm there a lot because my friend is the other owner of the shop and specializes in Nissan cars, and I see Jose's customers return a lot for even more upgrades. I been around the block a few times and see shops that do swaps and have customers return because it's not functioning properly. This shop has customers returning because they want even more. The price is reasonable, I've heard much worse in other shops, and remember, you have to pay to play.

I got my 1jz swap plus auto to manual done at Kaizen, and I can't help but agree with all of the previous posts. The way I figure it is the extra money that you may be spending upfront on the swap, you will save in the long run. Jose is thorough, honest and just plain gets stuff done. He's professional and as mentioned before he helps you out after the swap is done. Furthermore, he is a Toyota specialist so he just plain knows his stuff. Lastly, I know you have heard this before but you get what you pay for, they may be expensive but look at how many members willingly co-sign for the guys at Kaizen. Maybe its in the water??

My 2 cents on Kaizen Motorsports:

Jose does a great job. He's been working on MKIII and MKIV Supras for years and years. All of his work comes out clean and it's done correctly. The best technicians out there are the ones that own the same car and specialize in specific dealings (tons of 1JZ/2JZ swaps in MK3/4 Supras).

I wonder how much his cell bill is now... the number is posted all over the internet... hahaha
