Custom CF hood fabrication?
Does anyone know a shop that can do custom carbon fiber hood fabrication, with a goal of weight savings?
Or custom CF/fiberglass fabrication?
How much does custom carbon fiber/fiberglass work cost? Hoods are like $300-$600, I've seen, and a custom one would hopefully be only a few hundred more.

Most likely you will have to permanently give them your stock hood for them to make a mould out of it, in return for a free or discounted CF hood. But they won't do it if they don't think there's enough of a market for 'em. The problem with this, is that yours won't be "custom," it'll just be that company's first one. If you want someone to truly make you a one-off, there's no way someone will do that for a few hundred more bucks over 3-400

My friend knows a guy that copies things and reproduces them in carbon fiber. I asked him about copying the doors and he said each mold would cost me about $3k and I believe that is a "hook-up" price. So for the hood, I would guess it would be between 2 and 3k.

Whoa, 2-3k, way more than I was looking to spend. Would a fiberglass hood be cheaper? And almost as light?
Hmmmm, it's looking like this is a fruitless idea.

I have heard of a shop in San Diego that will wrap your hood - but that will only make it heavier, not lighter... But if you want to achieve the look it may be an option for you. Teamprototype.com
